August 29, 2024: District Attorney Gascón Announces Charges Against Three Men in Sherman Oaks Home Invasion Robbery

LOS ANGELES –Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Juan Gonzalez, Dion Hill, and Isaiah Rankins are charged with home invasion robbery after they allegedly broke into a Sherman Oaks home while a woman was present and stole luxury handbags and jewelry on August 26.

“Residential home invasions are deeply disturbing crimes that impact not only the victims, but our entire community,” said District Attorney Gascón. “Our homes are meant to be sanctuaries – a place where we should feel safe and secure. I want to assure the community that our office is fully committed to holding the perpetrators accountable and is working closely with law enforcement to bring justice to the victims.”

The defendants are charged in case 24VWCF01744 as follows:

Juan Carlos Gonzalez (DOB 2/26/2003) is charged with one count of home invasion robbery and one count of first-degree residential burglary with person present.

Dion Elijah Hill (DOB 1/10/2000) is charged with one count of home invasion robbery and two counts of first-degree residential burglary with person present.

Isaiah Jaron Rankins (DOB 10/1/2001) is charged with one count of home invasion robbery and one count of first-degree residential burglary with person present.

On August 26, at approximately 8:45 p.m., all three defendants allegedly broke into and robbed a home in a Sherman Oaks neighborhood in the city of Los Angeles while a victim was present. They allegedly stole thousands of dollars in luxury handbags and jewelry. The men then fled in a vehicle and drove to the city of Compton where they allegedly broke into homes to hide from police.

All three men were arrested that same day in Compton by Los Angeles police.

Defendants pleaded not guilty at arraignment on August 29. A preliminary hearing setting is set for September 12 in Dept. 122 of Van Nuys Courthouse West.     

All three defendants are in custody. Bail was set as follows: Juan Gonzalez: $1,000,000; Dion Hill: $2,000,000; Isaiah Rankins: $225,000.

If convicted as charged, Juan Gonzalez faces a maximum sentence of 12 years and 4 months in state prison.

If convicted as charged, Dion Hill faces a maximum sentence of 25 years and 4 months in state prison.

If convicted as charged, Isaiah Rankins faces a maximum sentence of 20 years and 8 months in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
