October 25, 2024: DA Gascón Announces Charges Against Man in Sexual Assault, Attempted Kidnapping of 11-Year-Old Girl in Wilmington
Jose Julian Jaime Jr. is charged with sexually assaulting and attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old girl in the city of Wilmington
WILMINGTON, CA - Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Jose Julian Jaime Jr. is charged with sexually assaulting and attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old girl on October 21 as she was walking home from school in the city of Wilmington.
“Our thoughts are with the young victim as she and her family navigate the trauma she has endured. No child should ever have to face such a terrifying encounter and we are committed to supporting her in every way possible through our office’s Bureau of Victim Services,” said District Attorney Gascón. “I would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the witnesses who stepped up during this critical time. Your willingness to act and provide aid to the victim and valuable information to police was vital in identifying the suspect, demonstrating the strength and unity of our community in protecting its most vulnerable members. Our Sex Crimes Division will work diligently to hold the offender accountable and seek justice.”
Jose Julian Jaime Jr. (DOB: 10/21/94) is charged in case 24LBCF01300 with one felony count of forcible lewd act upon a child under age 14; and one felony count of attempted kidnapping to commit another crime.
It is further alleged that at the time of the commission of the crime, Jaime was a stranger to the victim.
Jaime is scheduled to be arraigned today in Dept. S01 of the Long Beach Courthouse.
On October 21, the victim was walking home from school when Jaime allegedly approached her, sexually assaulted her, and then attempted to kidnap her. The incident was witnessed by two individuals.
Jaime was arrested on October 23.
If convicted as charged, Jaime faces a maximum sentence of 19 years in state prison.
The case is being prosecuted by LADA’s Sex Crimes Division and investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
