A 29-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting a man who was walking by a house party in Ladera Heights last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced today.

Tylon Deshawn Geoffrey White (dob 4/6/91) of Compton faces one felony count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon with allegations that the crimes were committed in association with a criminal street gang.

Arraignment was scheduled today but continued to August 13 in Department W30 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch. Case SA102931 was filed on July 27.

Victim Jakeil Reynolds, 25, was walking to his home on July 22 when he was allegedly confronted and then shot to death by the defendant, prosecutors said. Reynolds was a youth sports coach and a teaching assistant at a local school.

If convicted as charged, White faces a possible maximum sentence of 40 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at more than $4 million.

Deputy District Attorneys Delanee Hicks and James Sargent of the Hardcore Gang Division are the assigned prosecutors.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
