A 26-year-old man has been charged with the death of a 2-year-old boy who died in a car crash in Palmdale last Sunday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Devon Devere Dorsey (dob 10/11/94) of California City faces one felony count each of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury, gross vehicular manslaughter, two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death and one misdemeanor count of driving when privilege suspended or revoked.

Dorsey pleaded not guilty to the charges yesterday and is scheduled to return on December 9 in Department A02 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Angelo Mishriki is assigned to the case.

On November 15, the defendant was allegedly driving under the influence with a woman and her two children aboard when he crashed into a dirt embankment near Avenue P and 240th Street East in Palmdale, prosecutors said. The woman was injured and 2-year-old Michael Bonner died as a result of the injuries, prosecutors added.

If convicted as charged, Dorsey faces a possible maximum sentence of more than 13 years in state prison. Bail is set at $2 million.

The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
