Crimes of Violence
The top priority of the District Attorney’s Office is to take
violent criminals off the street and seek justice for their victims.
Prosecutors assigned to specialized units and regional offices
throughout the county work daily to achieve those goals and make our
communities safer.
The crimes listed on the left are vertically prosecuted by
specially trained Deputy District Attorneys who handle the cases from
beginning to end. This ensures that dangerous criminals and their
victims receive the attention they deserve.
In 2001, the District Attorney’s Victim Impact Program doubled the number of highly trained and qualified
deputy district attorneys in Branch and Area offices across the county
who vertically prosecute elder abuse cases, hate crimes, sexual
crimes, stalking cases, and family violence. Law enforcement
investigators file these cases directly with VIP coordinators and work
with prosecutors who handle the case from start to finish.
