BELLFLOWER – A murder charge was filed by the District Attorney’s office today against a Bellflower woman accused of killing her elderly father, then partially burying his body in the backyard of their home.

Linda Sue Copeland, 56 (dob 12-20-1951), is scheduled to appear for arraignment this afternoon in Superior Court Department 3, 10025 Flower St., Bellflower. She is charged in case No. VA105792 with one count of murder. Bail was recommended at $1 million.

The body of 91-year-old Ralph Stofleth was found buried on Monday in the backyard of the home in the 9800 block of Potter Street in Bellflower. Authorities said Copeland lived there with her father.

According to the complaint, Stofleth was killed sometime between Feb. 1 and Feb. 8 of this year. His body was found near a back yard shed. It was covered with sheets and cardboard.

Deputies from the Lakewood Station found the body after worried neighbors called to express concern that they had not seen the victim for several months.

Deputy District Attorney Taraneh Saba of the Elder Abuse Section was assigned to prosecute the case.
