VAN NUYS – An alleged drunk driver accused of colliding
with a police vehicle, causing the patrol vehicle to lose control
and hit another car, is due to be arraigned this afternoon, the
District Attorney’s Office announced.
Deputy District Attorney Annemarie Acosta of the Van Nuys Branch
Office said Silviano Hernandez Ramirez, 41 (dob 12/17/67), of North
Hollywood is due to appear in Department 100 of Van Nuys Superior
Court.
He is charged in case No. LA063545 with one count each of DUI
causing injury, driving with a .08% blood alcohol causing injury and
driving when his privilege was suspended or revoked, a misdemeanor.
The criminal complaint includes allegations of great bodily injury
and having a concentration of blood alcohol of .15% or more.
Prosecutors allege that Ramirez was driving under the influence
on Lankershim Boulevard when he made an illegal U-turn, colliding
with a Los Angeles Police Department patrol car. The force of the
collision caused the police vehicle to veer out of control and
strike another car. The three-car collision happened at 9:30 p.m. on
Nov. 4 in North Hollywood.
Both LAPD officers sustained injuries, the most serious being a
broken nose. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a
local hospital after complaining of pain, prosecutors said.
