LOS ANGELES – A teenage gang member who at
age 14 seriously injured a 9-year-old girl when he shot at two men
pleaded today, the District Attorney’s Office announced.
Deputy District Attorney Donna Hollingsworth of the
Hardcore Gang Division said Nicholas Mack pleaded no contest to two
counts of attempted murder. Mack additionally admitted gun use
allegations.
The defendant, now 16, is due back for sentencing on
Dec. 11 in Department 121 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Mack
entered the plea before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine
Olmedo. He is expected to be sentenced to a prison term of 34 years
and eight months.
Co-defendant Raymundo Munoz Villareal, 26, pleaded
no contest to one count of attempted murder on August 12, 2009. He
was sentenced to five years in state prison. The defendant entered
his plea following a trial that ended with a deadlocked jury.
The shooting took place on Sept. 11, 2007, when
Villareal drove Mack to an alley near the 1400 block of Cochran
Avenue. Mack exited the car, walked through alley and opened fire on
two male Hispanics standing in the doorway of a residence that was
adjacent to the alley, authorities said.
The bullet went through a wall and struck a
9-year-old girl who was in her bedroom doing homework. Mack and
Villareal were arrested three days later by officers of the Los
Angeles Police Department.
