LOS ANGELES – A 47-year-old convicted rapist pleaded guilty Oct. 15 to the first-degree rape-murder of a 93-year-old woman who was slain in 1991 at an El Sereno apartment complex for senior citizens.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren of the Major Crimes Division said Albert Rodriguez Salinas admitted the special circumstances of rape and burglary in exchange for a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Salinas was charged on July 26, 2004, with the April 12, 1991, rape and murder of Soo Hoo Quon. Authorities said the victim was found dead on her bedroom floor by a home service worker delivering breakfast.

The defendant was serving a three-year prison term for rape when charged. He was linked to the crime through DNA evidence on file in a state database, authorities said. He has remained in custody.

Salinas will be sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor on Jan. 13, 2010.
