LOS ANGELES –
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has unveiled a new
Web site for prosecutors and law enforcement officers seeking
training on such vital issues as gang prosecution, foreign
extradition and DNA evidence.
The Web site (http://da.lacounty.gov/CJI) highlights the work of
the District Attorney’s new Criminal Justice Institute, a regional
training center created to advance public safety through quality
training programs for criminal justice professionals.
"The District Attorney’s Office has a proud history of offering
superior training programs to criminal justice system
professionals," District Attorney Steve Cooley said. "Our ultimate
goal is to provide prosecutors and peace officers with first-rate
professional development programs that enhance investigations and
prosecutions, and advance public safety."
Through CJI, the District Attorney’s Office shares the legal
knowledge and expertise of its deputy district attorneys and
investigators with law enforcement personnel.
The Web site highlights the District Attorney’s top trainers,
lists upcoming events and allows law enforcement agencies and others
to submit online requests for specialized training in asset
forfeiture law, elder abuse prevention and investigating animal
cruelty cases.
Major upcoming trainings include: the Seventh Annual DNA
Awareness Educational Forum & Awards Luncheon, September 9, 2008, at
California State University, Los Angeles; the Ninth Annual Elder
Abuse Symposium, September 23, 2008, at The California Endowment;
and the Countywide Chronic Truancy Symposium, February 18, 2009, at
The Quiet Cannon in Montebello.
