PASADENA – A man charged with murdering his estranged wife
and her son in Alhambra a little more than nine years ago was
expected to appear for arraignment tomorrow in Pasadena Superior
Court.Deputy District Attorney Vivian Moreno said 60-year-old Fu
Lin Wang was arrested in Chicago earlier this month after a story
about the case appeared in a Chinese-language newspaper. He was
scheduled to be returned tonight to Los Angeles County by Alhambra
Police Detective James Hammond, the investigating officer.
Wang (dob 4-20-1947) was charged on Dec. 14, 1998, with the
murders of his estranged wife, Carol Lee, and 18-year-old Michael
Chu in Alhambra. The killings occurred at Lee’s home in Alhambra on
Dec. 5, 1998. The couple’s then 9-year-old daughter was at the home
at the time of the murders, but was not injured.
Case No. GA038016 charged Wang with two counts of murder with the
special circumstance of multiple murders. The complaint also alleged
the defendant personally used a handgun to kill the victims.
Additionally, the complaint stated that the defendant was convicted
in 1995 of assault with a firearm and shooting at an inhabited
dwelling.
Although filed as a capital crime, the District Attorney’s office
will not decide whether to seek the death penalty until the case
moves closer to trial.
Wang was arrested in Chicago’s Chinatown on March 16 and on March
20, waived extradition to California.
He also has been featured on the television show “America’s Most
Wanted.”
