NORWALK – A 41-year-old Carson man was convicted of murder today for killing his ex-wife’s new boyfriend.

Deputy District Attorney Deborah Escobar of Norwalk Branch Office said the jury deliberated for about two and a half hours before finding defendant Jeffrey Denard Lewis guilty of one count of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of lying in wait and a gun allegation.

Lewis killed his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, Da Shun Leonard Shufford, when he realized she was never coming back, the prosecutor said.  Wearing a wig and carrying a loaded handgun, Lewis waited for the victim to come home.

A verbal confrontation ensued upon the victim’s arrival and culminated with Lewis shooting Shufford four times.  Lewis proceeded to beat the victim in the head with the empty gun and stomped on his head before leaving the scene, the prosecutor said.

Judge Dewey L. Falcone presided over the 11-day trial.  The defendant is due to appear in court on April 11 for sentencing at Norwalk Superior Court, Department W.  The defendant faces life in prison without parole.
