A woman was sentenced today to one year in jail and five years of formal probation for a fatal crash at a Boyle Heights taco stand, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Judge Laura F. Priver handed down the sentence for Maribel Rosas (dob 9/5/81) of South Gate. The defendant pleaded no contest on Jan. 24 to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The judge also suspended a six-year state prison sentence and ordered the defendant to complete several alcohol awareness programs.

On June 26, 2016, Rosas was driving her car while intoxicated, went up a curb, drove through a taco stand, and crashed into a parked car. Francisco Gaytan, aka Juan Mendez, 48, was killed and eight other pedestrians also were injured.

Case BA448093 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
