A capital murder charge was filed today against a 26-year-old woman for the alleged killing of her boyfriend’s mother, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Cecelia Bonnie Sharkey (dob 3/25/89) of Los Angeles faces one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait and an allegation that she used a baseball bat as a deadly and dangerous weapon.

Arraignment for case LA081839 was continued to Oct. 5 in Department 100 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch.

Sharkey is charged with killing Patricia Metropoulos, 54, just outside of her Reseda home on Sept. 19, prosecutors said.

Deputy District Attorneys Jason Quirino and Cathy Lee are prosecuting the case.

If convicted as charged, Sharkey potentially faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The decision on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty will be made at a later date.

Sharkey is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Valley Division.
