A Whittier man was sentenced today to 24 years in state prison for sexually molesting a 5-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Jonathan Javier Ruvalcaba, 29, also was ordered to register as a sex offender for life by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Olivia Rosales.

Last month, Ruvalcaba pleaded no contest to one felony count each of continuous sexual abuse and forcible lewd act upon a child in case VA135185.

Deputy District Attorney Nicole Lai Vo, who prosecuted the case, said Ruvalcaba began sexually assaulting the young girl in 2010. The abuse continued for three years, the prosecutor added.

Authorities were notified about the potential abuse in October 2013. Evidence was examined for several months before Ruvalcaba was arrested in May 2014.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau.
