A 29-year-old man pleaded no contest yesterday to sexually molesting a 5-year-old girl, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced.

Jonathan Javier Ruvalcaba (dob 5/30/86) of Whittier pleaded no contest Wednesday to two felony counts: continuous sexual abuse and forcible lewd act upon a child in case VA135185.

Ruvalcaba is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 5 in Department M of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Norwalk Branch. The defendant will be sentenced to 24 years in state prison. Additionally, he will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Deputy District Attorney Nicole Lai Vo, who prosecuted the case, said Ruvalcaba began sexually molesting the young girl in 2010. The abuse continued for three years, the prosecutor added.

Authorities were notified about the potential abuse in October 2013. Law enforcement examined evidence for several months and on May 13, 2014, the defendant was arrested in connection with the crime.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau.
