A third teenager reportedly involved in a fatal home-invasion robbery in Pico Rivera was charged today with special circumstance murder, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Angel Emilio Estrello (dob 4/27/99) has been charged as an adult with one count of murder, two counts of home-invasion robbery and one count of first-degree burglary in case VA137010. The charging document includes a special circumstance allegation that the killing was committed in the commission of a robbery.

Estrello is scheduled to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Downey in Department 6.

On Tuesday prosecutors charged Jesus Rafael Adame (dob 4/13/96) and Sergio Anthony Gutierrez (dob 6/7/97), the homeowner’s son, with the same counts and special circumstance allegation in case VA136976.

Prosecutors said in the early morning of Sept. 20 the victim, Sergio Gutierrez, was reportedly attacked in his home by defendants Adame, Estrello and Gutierrez. After the killing, the defendants allegedly stole cash, credit cards and the family vehicle from the home, prosecutors added.

A tip led authorities to the defendants the next day.

The District Attorney’s office will decide at a later time whether to seek the death penalty against defendant Adame or life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Because of their age, Estrello and Gutierrez are not eligible for the death penalty, but they face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The defendants are being held without bail.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
