The brother of a Van Nuys man already charged with capital murder and a third man were both charged today with the April kidnapping and murder of a Glendale man whose body was found dumped on a Sun Valley road, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Originally, prosecutors alleged the April 24 murder of 33-year-old Joshua West was committed by Hachik “Kriss” Maskovian, 29 (dob 10-15-84), who was charged April 30 with murder and a hate crime allegation.

But further investigation revealed the victim and Maskovian’s older brother, Hovanes “John” Maskovian, had been in a long-term relationship that recently ended, and the two brothers and a third man planned  West’s murder to collect on the victim’s insurance policy.

Maskovian, his 34-year-old brother, “John,” and Nazaret “Nick” Bayamdzhyan, 19, are scheduled to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. today at Los Angeles Superior Court, San Fernando Branch, Department S. All three are being held without bail.

The three are charged in case PA076771 with one count each of murder with the special circumstances of lying in wait, murder for financial gain and murder during an attempted kidnapping, and one count of attempted kidnapping. The hate crime allegation was dropped from the amended complaint that was filed today.

Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against the three men.

Deputy District Attorney Geoffrey Lewin with the Organized Crime Division said West was lured to a Sun Valley location where he was beaten, run over by a car and shot. His body was dumped in the 10200 block of Penrose Street, also in Sun Valley.
