A man was sentenced today to 30 years in state prison for sexually abusing boys he met at a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Sun Valley, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Judge Leslie Dunn of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch, additionally ordered defendant Marcelo Lozano, 34, to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life upon release from prison.

Deputy District Attorney Rena Durrant of the Van Nuys Branch prosecuted the case.

Lozano pleaded no contest on Sept. 12 to three felony counts – two counts of continuous sexual abuse and one count of oral copulation of a person under 14 – involving three victims.

Lozano met the victims through Jehovah's Witness, Sun Valley Spanish Congregation, where he was an usher, the prosecutor said.

The crimes occurred between Jan. 1, 2006, and June 30, 2013. The victims ranged in age from eight to 15 years old.

The Los Angeles Police Department investigated the case.
