The District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division (JSID) charged a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy today with assaulting jail inmates in Compton and Los Angeles in 2009 and 2010.

The Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest late this afternoon of Jermaine W. Jackson, 35 (dob 8-14-1977). The arrest came after a felony complaint for arrest warrant (BA 405690) was filed by JSID.

Jackson is charged with six counts – two of assault likely to produce great bodily injury, two of assault under color of authority and two of false report by a police officer. In two of the assault counts involving an inmate at the Twin Towers Correction Facility in Los Angeles, the complaint alleged personal infliction of great bodily injury. The complaint said that assault occurred on Christmas Day, 2010, and involved one inmate.

It was alleged the first assault at the Compton Courthouse lockup occurred on Dec. 31, 2009. That also involved one inmate.

Bail was recommended at $100,000. An arraignment date has not been scheduled, but could occur as early as tomorrow in Los Angeles Superior Court Department 30.

Deputy District Attorney Fernando Guzman of JSID filed and will prosecute the case.
