A 66-year-old man was charged today with sexually molesting a young girl and possessing child pornography on his electronic devices, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Ronald Melvin McKenzie (dob 12/2/50) of San Gabriel has been charged with nine felony counts in case GA101998: four counts of lewd act upon a child, four counts of possession of child pornography after a prior conviction and one count of sexual penetration with child 10 years old or younger.

The felony complaint also alleges that McKenzie was previously convicted of child molesting in 1990.

The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Alhambra Branch. Prosecutors are asking that bail be set at $1.46 million.

Deputy District Attorney Presciliano Duran of the Victim Impact Program, who is assigned to the case, said McKenzie reportedly began sexually abusing a young girl in 2013.

The defendant allegedly molested the same child victim again from July to September 2017, the prosecutor added.

An adult alerted authorities about the possible sexual assaults and law enforcement began an investigation, according to the prosecutor.

When police confronted the defendant and searched his electronic devices, they reportedly found multiple images of child pornography, the prosecutor said.

McKenzie was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the crimes.

If convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 28 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the San Gabriel Police Department.
