A San Fernando man was sentenced today to 17 years and six months to life in state prison for killing his wife while their three young children slept in the house, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Jorge Casas (dob 9/20/79) pleaded no contest on April 30 to one count of second-degree murder and three counts of child abuse.

Deputy District Attorney Cathy Lee said Casas also admitted using a knife as a deadly weapon in the murder of Deseret Favila, 33.

At around 2 a.m. on Jan. 19, 2017, the defendant woke his children up and took them to his mother’s home behind his residence on the 1000 block of Griswold Avenue. The children, ages 4, 7, and 8, noticed blood on their father’s hands, the prosecutor said.

The victim had been stabbed multiple times in the neck while she was in their bed, the prosecutor added.

Case PA087993 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the San Fernando Police Department.
