October 4, 2018: Pomona Man Charged with Killing Father

A 43-year-old Pomona man was charged today with the stabbing death of his 71-year-old father, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Kelsey McKeever Unger said Sergio Valdes (dob 11/4/74) faces one felony count each of murder and elder abuse in case KA119244.

Arraignment was continued to Nov. 1 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

On Oct. 2, Valdes is charged with fatally stabbing his father, Ernesto Valdes, with a meat cleaver, the prosecutor said.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at $2 million.

The case was investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
