Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that two men were charged today for breaking into the home of U.S. Congresswoman and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Karen Bass and stealing guns.

“Everyone deserves to be safe in their home. Residential burglary is a violation of that safety in the most fundamental way,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Gun thefts have increased since the pandemic began. Many of these stolen guns are then used to commit violent crimes.

We will hold accountable the people responsible for breaking into Rep. Karen Bass’s home and stealing firearms from her or any other law-abiding gun owner in Los Angeles County.”

Patricio Munoz (dob 11/14/79) and Juan Espinoza (dob 4/21/98) were each charged in case BA509127 with one felony count of first-degree residential burglary and two counts of grand theft of a firearm.

They are expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On September 9, the two defendants are accused of breaking into the Baldwin Vista home and taking two handguns. They fled and were later arrested.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
