Two men were charged today with murdering a 25-year-old man in Leimert Park last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Tyree Davion Woods (dob 8/4/94) of Los Angeles and Dondre Williams (dob 8/28/93) of Palmdale were each charged with one count of capital murder in case BA439175. The complaint also alleges Woods personally used a handgun.

They are scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On July 20, Derron Jones and a woman were allegedly being followed in their car by the two defendants. As Jones attempted to make a U-turn, Woods is accused of cutting off the victim’s vehicle, getting out of his car and opening fire.

Jones was struck by the gunfire and taken to a hospital where he died. The woman was uninjured.

Both men were arrested Aug. 20 after a pursuit, prosecutors added.

The special circumstance of murder during a robbery makes the defendants eligible for the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek death.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Bureau Homicide.
