June 5, 2025: North Hollywood Man Sentenced to Over 12 Years in Prison for Brutal Assault on Young Son

personally inflicting great bodily injury on a child under 5
VAN NUYS, CA – Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced today that a North Hollywood man has been sentenced to 12 years and eight months in state prison for the violent assault of his 14-month-old son that left the child severely injured.
“The level of violence inflicted on this defenseless child is nothing short of monstrous,” District Attorney Hochman said. “This office will continue to pursue maximum accountability for those who harm children. Justice demands nothing less. I want to thank the prosecutors in our Family Violence Division who worked tirelessly to bring justice in this heartbreaking case, particularly Deputy District Attorneys Jonathan Hatami and Mackenzie Teymouri. Their dedication ensured the defendant was held fully accountable for his actions.”
Cesar Daniel Cabrera Jr. (dob 12/10/01) pleaded no contest in the Van Nuys Courthouse to one felony count of child abuse under conditions likely to cause great bodily injury. The plea included the defendant admitting the special allegation for personally inflicting great bodily injury on a child under 5.
The assault occurred on March 22, 2022, in North Hollywood. The 14-month-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries as a result.
The defendant received the high term of 12 years in state prison and was ordered to pay full restitution to the victim. A 10-year criminal protective order was also issued.
Cabrera also pleaded no contest to two counts of second-degree burglary — one in each of two separate cases — and was sentenced to an additional eight months, bringing the total sentence to 12 years and eight months in state prison.
Case LA097597 was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Jonathan Hatami and Mackenzie Teymouri of the Family Violence Division and investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
