A driver was sentenced today to six years in state prison after pleading no contest to vehicular manslaughter for killing a bicyclist in April, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Cruz Tzoc , 23, of Los Angeles, entered his plea to one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was immediately sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Fred Wapner.

On April 23, Tzoc sideswiped a car, driving about 60 mph in the Rampart area. He then struck a parked car and went through an intersection backwards when he hit and killed 26-year-old Tomas Brewer, dragging him about 25 feet.

Tzoc’s truck hit a tree and he was arrested at the scene.

Case BA446088 was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
