A Pasadena woman has pleaded no contest for assaulting her 25-year-old daughter as the daughter drove her home from a La Cañada country club, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Danielle Raines, 58, entered the plea on Friday to one felony count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Raines was immediately sentenced to three years formal probation and ordered to complete a one-year residential drug rehab program.

The defendant also was ordered to attend Alcoholic Anonymous meetings five times a week and to stay away from her daughter and the family home.

Raines was having a meal and drinking with the victim at a country club on Aug. 31, when she became belligerent and struck and pushed her daughter as she prepared to drive her mother home, prosecutors said. During the drive, the defendant attacked her daughter causing her to pull over.

Once on the side of the road, Raines allegedly continued striking the victim and attempted to strangle her before the daughter managed to escape, prosecutors added.

Case GA099671 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Crescenta Valley Station.
