January 23, 2013: Mother Accused of Assault in Harbor Fight Between Defendant’s Daughter, Second Girl

A San Pedro woman accused of accompanying her daughter to an after-school fight with a second girl was charged by the District Attorney’s Office today with assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Station arrested Amber Lee Gutierrez, 33 (dob 1/30/1979), yesterday as part of their continuing investigation into the Jan. 14 prearranged fight in a West Gaffey Street alley after school.

Gutierrez was charged today in case No. NA094558 with one felony count of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. The complaint alleged that Gutierrez personally inflicted great bodily injury on victim, whom LAPD said is 12 years old. The defendant is being held on $100,000 bond.

Arraignment was scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in Department J. If convicted as charged, Gutierrez faces a possible maximum state prison term of seven years.

No juvenile case has been presented at this time. LAPD said it is continuing its investigation.
