A man was sentenced today to 19 years in state prison for breaking into an elderly woman’s Lakewood home, severely assaulting her and stealing cash, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

At today’s court appearance, Daveon Clifton McCutcheon, 19, pleaded no contest to first-degree residential robbery in case VA140919. The defendant also admitted a special allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury on the victim.

Deputy District Attorney Amanda Luna of the Victim Impact Program, who prosecuted the case, said in the afternoon of Jan. 1, the 89-year-old homeowner saw McCutcheon trying to break into her Lakewood home.

The victim told the defendant to go away, but he broke in, the prosecutor added. Once inside the home, McCutcheon punched and kicked the elderly woman, breaking her nose and giving her a concussion, the prosecutor said.

The defendant then went through the victim’s home before stealing $148 in cash and fleeing the scene, according to the prosecutor.

The elderly woman called law enforcement to report the incident, the prosecutor said. Soon after, authorities located McCutcheon and arrested him in connection with the robbery.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
