A 38-year-old man was sentenced today to eight years in state prison for furnishing drugs, which ultimately caused a man to overdose, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On Dec. 4, Tommy Loaiza pleaded no contest to a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in case PA083621.

The defendant also admitted he was previously convicted of second-degree robbery in 1995.

Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey Illions, who prosecuted the case, said Loaiza supplied heroin to Kahlil Banks at the victim’s Santa Clarita apartment on May 21.

Banks, 42, overdosed on the drug, the prosecutor said, and Loaiza left him for dead.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
