A 27-year-old man was sentenced today for killing the passenger in his McLaren sports car by crashing into a tree in Valley Village, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi said Daniel Joseph Silva of North Hollywood entered a no contest plea last month to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter.

Today, Silva was sentenced to 364 days in jail, five years of formal probation, 250 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of four years. A suspended sentence may be imposed if a defendant violates the terms of his probation.

Silva was driving when he crashed his car, killing Corey James Labarrie, 25, on May 10, the prosecutor said.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Station.
