A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in state prison for illegally possessing a gun during a 2016 fight and police pursuit in Echo Park, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Andres Bonafacio Ramirez of Echo Park was sentenced yesterday after pleading no contest on Oct. 2 to one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon with two priors. He also admitted allegations of a previous felony conviction and that he served a state prison term within five years of committing the crime.

Deputy District Attorney Sandi Roth prosecuted case BA451237.

On Oct. 23, 2016, Ramirez and several other people approached three men outside of a bar in Echo Park and a fight ensued. During the altercation, Ramirez pulled out a gun.

Los Angeles police officers arrived and Ramirez fled on foot. Police shot him during the pursuit.

He also was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2011 in Los Angeles County.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
