A Glendale man was sentenced today to 26 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing a passenger aboard a Metro bus in 2015, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On March 28, a jury deliberated for 30 minutes before finding Allan Jay Milton, 44, guilty of first-degree murder in case BA441385.

Deputy District Attorney Lee Orquiola said the jury also found true a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife.

On Nov. 9, 2015, Milton boarded a bus in South Los Angeles and got into an argument with Phillip Melendez, 49. As the bus travelled through Highland Park, the defendant stabbed Melendez to death, the prosecutor said. The bus stopped and Milton ran out of the vehicle, the prosecutor added.

According to court testimony, the defendant was dating the victim’s ex-girlfriend.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
