A man pleaded guilty today to killing a 74-year-old woman in a hit-and-run crash last December, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Raul Juarez Carranza (dob 3/28/41) of East Los Angeles pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

Carranza is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 13 in Department 111 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. He faces up to four years in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Allison Willhite prosecuted the case.

On Dec. 8, 2018, Carranza was making a turn in a pickup truck when he hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street at Whittier Boulevard and Williamson Avenue, prosecutors said. Maty Sanchez, who lived in the neighborhood, died from her injuries.

Case BA474140 was investigated by the California Highway Patrol, East Los Angeles Station.
