A 21-year-old man was convicted today of shooting a gang member in the throat, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

A jury deliberated for less than two days before finding Andrew Phillip Kingsbury (dob 5/16/93) of West Covina guilty of two felony counts: attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in case KA105923.

The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced June 5 in Department P of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch. Kingsbury faces a possible maximum sentence of 34 years to life in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Michelena of the Hardcore Gang Division said Kingsbury is a Varrio Trece gang member.

On May 14, 2014, the defendant traveled to Hacienda Heights, spotted a gang member, walked up and shot him in the throat, the prosecutor said.

Following the shooting, Kingsbury fled the scene on foot, but was arrested less than an hour later, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
