June 29, 2018: Man Charged with Rape, Sexual Battery in Pomona

A 39-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting several women over a five-month span, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

David Tymel Cummings (dob 4/8/79) has been charged with five counts in case KA118429: two counts of forcible rape and three counts of sexual battery.

The felony complaint includes special allegations that the defendant was previously convicted of first-degree residential burglary in 1998, possession of a firearm by a felon in 1999, attempted grand theft from the person of another in 2002, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2003, possession for sale of cocaine base and ex-convict unlawfully entering a custodial facility in 2006.

The defendant was scheduled to be arraigned today, but the court appearance was continued to July 2 in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Matoba of the Victim Impact Program is assigned to the case.

Cummings reportedly was a transient living in the Pomona area, according to prosecutors.

Between August and September 2017, Cummings allegedly fondled three women and raped two additional women in January, prosecutors said.

After conducting further investigation, authorities filed a case for arrest warrant on June 22. Six days later, police arrested the defendant.

If convicted as charged, Cummings faces a maximum possible sentence of 17 years and six months in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
