A 26-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a woman at a Pomona motel was charged today, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Alexander Anthony Clever (dob 5/19/88) of Pomona was charged with one count of murder in case KA108454.

The defendant was scheduled to be arraigned today, but the court appearance was continued to Jan. 8 at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pomona in Department F. Prosecutors will recommend that his bail be set at $1.08 million.

The charging document also alleges that Clever was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2006, possession of a firearm by a felon in 2009 and carrying a dirk or dagger in 2011.

Prosecutors said on Nov. 29, police responded to a 911 call at a motel in the 2400 block of South Garey Avenue.

When authorities arrived at the location, they discovered the victim, Yvette Silva, 35, fatally stabbed in a motel bathroom.

Two days later, the defendant was arrested in connection with the killing.

If convicted as charged, Clever faces a maximum sentence of 57 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
