August 12, 2019: Man Charged with Murder of Elderly Man in Downtown Los Angeles

A man has been charged with killing a 70-year-old man in downtown Los Angeles last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Gerson Carrillotorres (dob 11/25/95) was charged in case BA479440 with one count of murder.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The case was filed on July 15.

On July 2, Carrillotorres is accused of punching Julius Rondez, 70, as he walked down the street in the 400 block of East Temple Street. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

If convicted, Carrillotorres faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.

Deputy District Attorney Ashley Rosen of the Elder Abuse Section is prosecuting the case.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
