An Inglewood man was charged today with murdering a 2-year-old Westchester boy who died from multiple injuries last summer, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Josafat Bonifacio (dob 7/13/91) was charged in case SA099806 with one count each of murder and assault on a child causing death. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department W30 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Colby Cano of the Family Violence Division, Complex Child Abuse Section, is prosecuting the case.

On July 3, 2018, Bonifacio was at a Westchester residence where he had been staying with his girlfriend and her family and had been watching his 4-year-old son and his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, Damien V.

A 911 call was made during the evening and Damien was taken to a hospital where he died, the prosecutor said. The victim had multiple injuries.

If convicted as charged, Bonifacio faces a possible maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
