March 12, 2020: Man Charged with Killing Store Clerk During Robbery

A 25-year-old man was charged today with robbing several convenience stores and fatally shooting a clerk, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Kevin Karnell Hall (dob 10/10/94) of Apple Valley faces one count of murder and six counts of sec0nd-degree robbery.

Deputy District Attorney Brandy Chase said case VA153043 includes special circumstance allegations of murder during the commission of a robbery and murder for financial gain as well as allegations of using a handgun during the crimes.

Arraignment was continued today to March 18 in Department J of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Norwalk Branch.

Hall is charged with robbing four convenience stores in Los Angeles and Orange counties, including one in Whittier where victim Maninder Singh, 31, was fatally shot, the prosecutor said.

If convicted as charged, Hall faces life in prison without the possibility of parole or capital punishment. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date. He is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation by the Whittier and Pomona police departments.
