January 8, 2021: Man Charged With Killing Mother, Nephew in Los Angeles

A man has been charged with killing his mother and his 6-year-old nephew last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

David Cordoba (dob 10/5/94) was charged in case BA492321 with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. 

The case was filed for warrant on December 31. 

On Dec. 21, 2020, the defendant was at the home he shares with his mother in the 1800 block of W. 11th Street and allegedly killed his 60-year-old mother, Maria R., and his 6-year-old nephew. 

The defendant’s brother, also the boy’s father, was injured when he arrived at the home and was allegedly stabbed by the defendant. The brother suffered minor injuries. 

Cordoba fled the residence and was arrested a short time later. 

If convicted as charged, Cordoba faces a possible maximum sentence of 39 years to life in state prison. 

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
