A Glendale man was charged today with murdering a passenger aboard a Metro bus earlier this week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Allan Jay Milton (9/22/72) was charged with one count of murder in case BA441385 with the special allegation that he personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife. Milton is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Prosecutors said Milton was on a bus in South Los Angeles on Nov. 9. At about 10:40 p.m., Milton got into an argument with victim Phillip Melendez and is accused of fatally stabbing him.

The bus stopped and Milton ran out of the vehicle. Milton was arrested on Tuesday.

Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $1 million. If convicted as charged, Milton faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
