A 29-year-old man has been charged and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in the beating death of an 89-year-old woman in a Hollywood apartment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Jerrod Vaile-Martindale (dob 5/15/88) was charged Feb. 23 with one count each of murder and elder or dependent adult abuse, resulting in death, in case BA465777. The charges include an allegation of using a deadly or dangerous weapon, shoes and feet, in the commission of a felony.

His arraignment was postponed last month and is now scheduled in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Bail was set at $2 million.

According to prosecutors, Vaile-Martindale was visiting an apartment where his father was living with three other people, including the victim, Julia Culp Myers. On Feb. 21, Vaile-Martindale allegedly beat her to death, prosecutors said.

Vaile-Martindale faces a maximum possible sentence of 26 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Bureau Homicide.
