A Los Angeles man was charged today with breaking into the home of a Venice woman, forcing her to escape to the roof, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Christian Broyles Hicks (dob 11/23/84) faces one count of first-degree burglary, person present in case SA088766.

Arraignment is scheduled this afternoon in Department 144 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

The felony complaint includes the allegation that the defendant was convicted in 2008 of carrying a loaded handgun, not registered and in 2011 of corporal injury to spouse, cohabitant or child’s parent.

On Sept. 24, Hicks broke into a home while the resident was there, prosecutors said. Upon seeing him, the victim escaped to the roof of the house and called police, prosecutors added.

The recommended bail for Hicks is $70,000. If convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of eight years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Pacific Division.
