A Los Angeles man has been charged with assault after he allegedly pulled out a gun during a fight in Echo Park, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Andres Ramirez (dob 3/28/91) was charged in case BA451237 with one count each of assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon with two priors. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On Oct.23, Ramirez, along with approximately nine others, approached three men outside a bar in Echo Park. The group claimed gang territory and a fight ensued.

During the altercation, Ramirez is accused of pulling out a gun. Los Angeles police officers arrived at the scene and saw Ramirez allegedly pointing the gun at one of the men. Ramirez fled on foot and was shot during the pursuit by police.

The criminal complaint alleges Ramirez was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2011 and having alcohol in a prison or jail earlier this year.

If convicted as charged, Ramirez faces up to 25 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
