A 24-year-old Los Angeles man was charged today with attempting to slip a drug into a woman’s drink that was thwarted by three good Samaritans, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Oksana Sigal said Michael Roe Chien Hsu (dob 08/09/91) is expected to appear for arraignment today after 1:30 p.m. in Department W30 of Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Hsu is charged with one felony count each of administering a drug and assault with intent to commit a sex crime in case SA093035.

On May 26, Hsu allegedly placed a drug into a woman’s drink while the two dined at a Santa Monica restaurant. Three women at an adjacent table intervened by alerting the victim and calling police, the prosecutor said.

Hsu’s recommended bail is $1 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Santa Monica Police Department.
