A 43-year-old man convicted of killing his wife last year was sentenced today to two life sentences in state prison, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Janis Johnson, who prosecuted the case, said Kevin Adonis Forrest was convicted by a jury on Sept. 2 of first-degree murder in case NA094966.

Jurors also found true the special allegations of personally and intentionally discharging a handgun, which caused great bodily injury and death, as well as personally using a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife.

The prosecutor said on Feb. 27, 2013, the defendant fatally shot and stabbed his wife of 18 years, Kathleen Ann Forrest, 59. The defendant then tried to dismember her, but was unsuccessful.

Four days after the slaying, Kevin Forrest called police and said he killed his wife, the prosecutor said. Authorities arrived at the home, discovered the victim’s body and arrested the defendant.

During the trial, Kevin Forrest testified that his wife had been verbally abusive to him. Additionally, the defendant said he was drunk the day of the crime but he did not remember killing his wife or trying to dismember her. However, police found photos taken by Kevin Forrest of the victim’s deceased body.

The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
