A Long Beach man was sentenced today to 16 years to life in state prison for killing the 68-year-old mother of his long-time girlfriend, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On Aug. 31, 2018, a jury found Luis Antonio Jimenez (dob 1/17/84) guilty of second-degree murder and found a knife-use allegation to be true.

Deputy District Attorney L. Christmas Brookens prosecuted the case.

According to evidence presented at the trial, on May 21, 2016, Jimenez stabbed Margarita C. 11 times. While the killing took place, Jimenez’s unsuspecting family waited outside for him in the car, the prosecutor said.

After the murder, the defendant left with the family to a school event, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
