March 23, 2020: Long Beach Man Charged with Killing Fiancé

A Long Beach man was charged today with killing his fiancé at their apartment last Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Peggy Kane said Colin Chandler Wolters (dob 2/11/84) faces one count of murder in case NA114144.

Arraignment was scheduled today and continued to April 6 in Department S01 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Long Beach Branch.

Wolters is charged with fatally beating Chelsea Smith, 27, on March 16, the prosecutor said.

Bail is set at $2 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department.
